Mohamed Salah has been revealed as the best bargain of the summer transfer window – on the day he was voted Liverpool’s player of the month for August.

Salah has made an impressive start to his Anfield career since arriving from Roma for a club record total of at least £36.9million.

The Egyptian won a penalty and scored on his debut at Watford, and has since also netted in the home wins over Hoffenheim and Arsenal.

And Reds supporters have recognised that impact by voting him as the first Standard Chartered player of the month for the season.

Salah polled 52% of the 32,325 votes cast on liverpoolfc.com, ahead of second-placed Sadio Mane (20%) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (16%) in third.

Meanwhile, the number crunchers at the CIES Football Observatory have determined Liverpool gained the best bargain of the summer when signing Salah.

In a study of the recent transfer window, the boffins deduced the greatest gaps between fees paid and values they estimate for players.

And they claim Liverpool’s purchase of Salah was the best value of the summer, with the amount paid considered almost 20m euros below the attacker’s estimated value.

The most overpaid transfer, it transpired, was the 180m euros Paris Saint-Germain have agreed to pay for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe.
