Misr Makasa out of the CAF Champions League preliminary round

The debut African Champions League campaign of Egypt’s Misr Makasa proved short-lived after they bowed out of the competition after failing to break down Senegal’s Generation Foot in a 0-0 draw in Cairo on Wednesday.

Chances were few and far between in a dour affair as Maqassa failed to bridge the 2-0 deficit from the first leg of the preliminary round to suffer an early exit from Africa’s premier club competition.

The closest they came to scoring was after 18 minutes when disappointing striker Marwan Hamdi was picked out unmarked following a cross but he headed over the bar.

Winger Mohamed Mosaad also had a half-chance on 26 minutes when he cut inside his challenger in the area, only to fire wide of the post.

The hosts maintained their territorial dominance in the second half but could not create a single goal-scoring chance as Generation Foot’s defence left little spaces at the back.

Misr Makasa caused an upset by finishing second in the Egyptian Premier League last season but they are struggling this term, sitting 13th in the table with 26 points, just three clear of the relegation zone.
