Egypt lose 2-1 to Saudi Arabia & El Hadary makes history

Egypt were stunned in the last minute of stoppage time by Saudi Arabia, capping a nightmarish World Cup campaign with a 2-1 defeat to the Asian nation at Volgograd on Monday.

Having gone ahead courtesy of a Mohamed Salah goal in the 22nd minute, Egypt were pegged back by a stoppage-time penalty from Salman Al Faraj before the break, as Salem Al Dawsari scored the killer goal seconds before the final whistle.

It was a bitter disappointment for the Egyptian side, however, with Liverpool striker Salah unable to prevent three consecutive defeats for his country.

Egyptian keeper Essam El-Hadary became the oldest player ever to appear at a World Cup at 45-years-old. Saudi Arabia finished third in the group standings, scoring their only goals of the tournament and vastly improving from the 5-0 thrashing by hosts Russia in their opening game.
