Last African Team “SENEGAL” out of the World Cup
No African team made it beyond the group stage of the World Cup in Russia as the continents last hope, Senegal, were dumped out on Thursday quite painfully.
Just like Nigeria, the Teranga Lions had their destiny in their hands going into the Colombia final group game and only needed at least a draw to pull through.
However Sadio Mane and his teammates could not hold their own against Colombia who beat them 1-0 to progress as the top team in Group H.
Yerry Minas 74th-minute header at the Samara Arena turned Group H on its head with Japan also going as runners-up through despite losing 1-0 to Poland.
Senegal and Japan finished the group with an identical record of points, goal difference and goals scored, with the former knocked out by virtue of having accumulated two more yellow cards. It means there is no African country in the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time in 36 years.
