Referee: Sadok Selmi (Tunisia)

Egypt’s Masry will be eyeing a home win over Morocco’s Renaissance de Berkane on Sunday to edge closer to a place in the African Confederation Cup knockout phase.

Masry have enjoyed a fine run in the group stage, collecting five points from their opening three games to sit second in Group B, just two points behind leaders Renaissance.

Sudan’s Al-Hilal are third on two points while Mozambique’s UD Songo lie at the bottom with a single point.

Masry held Renaissance to a goalless draw in Morocco earlier this month and should they beat them in Port Said, they will move top with eight points and come within touching distance of a place in the knockout stage.

“The fan support is great and we are eager to make them happy. This will not happen unless we lead our group,” said football director Ibrahim Hassan, the twin brother of head coach Hossam.

Hossam Hassan, Egypt’s all-time leading scorer, has been widely credited for turning around the fortunes of Masry, helping make them a usual contender for a top-four finish in the Egyptian Premier League.

He openly said he was interested in taking charge of the Egyptian national team following the departure of Argentinean boss Hector Cuper and criticised the country’s football federation for being reluctant to pick him.

But for the time being Hassan will be eager to help Masry to a victory against Renaissance as he seeks to lead them to their first continental title.

Masry were given a boost before the game after striker Ahmed Gomaa was declared fit to play.
