Al Ahly 4-3 Kampala CC | Match Highlights | CAF Champions League
Ahly ended their champions League’s group stage campaign on style after defeating Kampala City Council of Uganda 4-3 at Borg El-Arab stadium on Tuesday to secure their place in the quarters as group leaders.
The Red Devils have topped Group A with 13 points, two ahead of second-placed Esperance de Tunis who were held by Township Rollers of Botswana earlier on Tuesday.
Moroccan striker Walid Azaro opened the scoring for the hosts in the 23rd minute when he met a pinpoint cross from winger Ali Maaloul with an excellent glancing header at the far post.
Five minutes before the break, Ugandan striker Jackson Nunda leveled the score as he rose above his marker to send a powerful header past helpless keeper Mohamed El-Shennawi.
A blunder from the visitors’ keeper allowed Ahly’s summer-signing Sailf Coulibaly to restore their lead in the 50th minute but only for four minutes as Peter Magambo was left unmarked in the area to score the equalizer from close range.
The eight-time African champions scored twice in quick fire succession as Azaro converted another cross from Ahmed Fathi in the back of the net while substitute striker Salah Mohsen completed the rout after picking a rebounded ball from Kampala CC keeper to score in an empty net on 63 and 70 minutes respectively.
Allan Okello pulled one back in the 82nd minute but that wasn’t enough to get them anything out of this game.
The quarter-finals draw will be held in Cairo on the third of the next month.
