Al Masry beat Al Hilal 2-0 at home | VIDEO Highlights
Two goals either side of the interval gave Egypt’s Masry a 2-0 home win over Sudanese giants Al Hilal as the already-qualified side finished second in their CAF Confederation Cup group on Wednesday.
Roared on by a passionate crowd in coastal city Port Said, Masry’s Palestinian striker Mahmoud Wadi wasted two early chances to put his side ahead.
But Masry deservedly went ahead on 20 minutes when Abdel-Latif Grendo rose at the near post to head home an inviting free-kick from winger Ahmed Shoukri.
Masry eased off in the second half as Al Hilal squandered a couple of goal-scoring chances but they still managed to put the result beyond doubt seven minutes past the hour mark.
Left-back Mostafa Mohamed ran towards the area unopposed and hit a precise shot into the bottom corner as Masry comfortably beat Al Hilal.
They finished second in Group B with nine points, just one behind leaders Renaissance de Berkane of Morocco who defeated Mozambique’s UD Songo 2-1 in the other group game.
The quarter-finals draw will take place on Monday.
