Venue: Petro Sport stadium
Zamalek looked to have finally rediscovered their consistency lately and they will be looking to continue their winning run when they meet Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.
The White Knights chalked up five consecutive wins in all competitions, reaching the Egypt Cup quarter-final and coming within touching distance of booking a last-eight berth at the Arab Champions Cup.
They are likely to overcome a Wadi Degla side who lie 13th in the 18-team table with 11 points from as many games.
Should they beat Degla, Zamalek will move top as they eye their first league crown since winning a rare domestic double in 2015.
“The team is on the right path and I hope they will continue their winning run against Degla,” Zamalek’s usually outspoken chairman Mortada Mansour said on the club’s official website.
Mansour also vehemently denied reports suggesting that he was unhappy with Zamalek’s Swiss coach Christian Gross.
“There is no truth whatsoever in rumours saying Gross will be fired. How can I sack him at a time when Zamalek is doing well in different competitions?”
The Cairo giants have almost a fully-fit squad to choose from for the Wadi Degla game.
Gross is likely to keep faith with Congolese Kabongo Kasongo as a lone striker despite mounting criticism of his wastefulness.
Kasongo scored the winner as Zamalek beat Ittihad of Alexandria 1-0 in the first leg of the Arab Champions Cup round of 16 last Saturday.
