The ongoing saga over the Egyptian Premier League schedule is gaining momentum after Ahly rejected on Saturday all the proposals made by the Egyptian Football Association to make adjustments, following complaints from rivals Zamalek and Pyramids FC.
The EFA held a meeting on Wednesday after Pyramids FC and Zamalek threatened to withdraw from their upcoming matches until Ahly play all their delayed matches.
The Red Devils have had a host of games postponed as they had a very busy schedule playing in the African Champions League and the Arab Cup of Champions.
We will stick to playing our games according to the current schedule that was set by the EFA on 8 January. Nobody complained then and we didnt ask for any exceptions although we are playing every 72 hours and losing many players due to injuries, Ahly said in a statement on Saturday following an urgent board meeting.
Zamalek are top of the table with 45 points, followed by Pyramids FC with 42 points and Ahly with 39 points. But while Pyramids have played all their 21 games, Ahly and Zamalek have played three fewer.
The Red Devils have also decided to file a complaint with the Confederation of African Football and the Egyptian Olympic Committee because of the attendance of Zamaleks president at Wednesdays EFA meeting, despite his being banned from all sporting activities by bodies for abusive behaviour towards officials.
