Two late goals gave Ahly a precious 2-1 comeback win at resilient Gouna on Sunday as the defending champions closed to within four points of leaders Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.
Gouna took a surprise lead early in the second half through ex Egypt and Ahly forward Nagi Gedo as they threatened to cause an upset for the second successive game, having secured a shock 2-1 victory over the big-spending Pyramids FC in their previous encounter.
But Ahly, who could not afford to drop points in a tight title race, roared back with a spirited display in the dying stages to snatch a much-needed win.
A low shot from substitute Karim Walid and a powerful effort from playmaker Nasser Maher completed the comeback as a workmanlike Ahly extended their winning run to eight matches.
The Red Devils, who finished with ten men after central defender Saad Samir was dismissed for a second bookable offence towards the end, moved up to second with 48 points, four behind Zamalek. Gouna are 11th on 26 points.

Masry continued their impressive run of results under coach Ehab Galal to beat Enppi 3-1 and climb to fourth in the Egyptian Premier League for the first time this season on Sunday.
Palestinian striker Mahmoud Wadi put Masry ahead after 13 minutes but Enppi’s Emad Fathi converted a low cross early in the second half to level the score.
Nigerian forward Austin Amutu restored Masry’s advantage in the 74th minute and winger Islam Eissa ensured the win with six minutes remaining in bizarre fashion.
Enppi’s keeper Amr Hossam was red-carded for fouling Amutu outside of the area and, with the team having already made their three substitutions, defender Rami Sabri was forced to assume the goalkeeping duties and he was powerless to stop Eissa’s ensuing free-kick from going in.
Masry lie fourth in the table with 35 points, ahead of fifth-placed Maqassa on goal difference as they chase an African Confederation Cup spot.
They have only lost once in nine matches since Galal took over in December, claiming five wins. Their win over Enppi is also their third successive victory.
