The former Tottenham, Ajax, Roma and Marseille forward Mido didnt end his career at the peak of physical fitness.
But if Mido wasnt always in-shape as a footballer, then life after football was even more unkind to Midos waistline. Speaking to the Guardian in June 2018, Mido revealed: I was 150kg and I reached a point where I couldnt walk 30 yards.
If I did, I started to feel pain in my back, my joints and my knees. I remember I was getting off my boat in Egypt five months ago this day is the turning point in my life and I was walking off on to an island. I had three friends with me and it was 300 yards to the end of the island. The sand was a bit heavy and it was a bit sunny and I said to them: I cannot walk. I had to sit for 30 minutes. I was only 34. That was the moment the switch flicked.
Judging by a recent Instagram post though, Mido has done as he promised and got lean for summer.
Helped by Aly Mazha, one of Egypts biggest fitness coaches, Mido has apparently been losing an average of 6kg a month, but whats even more surprising is that Mido got into summer-body shape in just 100 days. The story of Mido’s transformation has been documented in all its glory for the documentary MidoXAly.
Be warned though, it’s a long watch, where Mido, bizarrely and repeatedly, refers to himself in the third person.
Before his transformation, Mido would regularly make it onto lists of the ‘fattest Premier League footballers’. But after his amazing weightloss, one thing is for sure, ‘who ate all the pies?’ Not Mido.
