The Organizing Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations headed by Hany Abu Raida decided to reduce the prices of third-class tickets for Egypt’s matches in the tournament during its first round to LE150 instead of LE200 in order to ease the financial burden on Egyptian football fans and increase their attendance.
The committee said in a statement that the decision was made in coordination with the concerned authorities and based on studies taking into account a number of factors to determine the prices of tickets compared to previous championships including the number of audience members, average per capita income, stadium costs and the marketing value of the current tournament.
The organizing committee stressed that it wished to further lower the value of the third-class tickets, but the factors determining ticket prices in major tournaments have prevented this.
The Egyptian Football Association and the organizing committee of the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in Egypt between June 21 and July 19, have been subjected to a sharp wave of virulent criticism regarding ticket prices.
Twenty-four teams will be taking part in the tournament, divided into six groups. Egypt’s national team will be in the first group, which includes the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
