Egypt, the record seven-time African champions, will be hosting the Ugandan team on Sunday at Cairo Stadium in the final round of the prestigious tournament’s group stage.

Egypt are W7 D0 L1 in the head to head against Uganda, they traded 1-0 home wins during World Cup 2018 qualification.
Both teams have scored in one of the previous eight meetings.
Each of the last three meetings have been settled by a 1-0 scoreline.

Egypt started with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe. Then it was a 2-0 success over the DR Congo. The Egyptians are currently on a four-match winning streak currently, losing just one of their last nine played (W7 D1 L1). They have home support on their side, the star power of Mo Salah and they are the tournament favourites. Liverpool’s Salah scored Egypt’s second goal against DR Congo.

keeper Mahmoud Gennesh out of service!

Egypt’s third-choice keeper Mahmoud Gennesh has been ruled out of the African Cup of Nations after injuring his Achilles tendon during a training session on Friday, the country’s football association said.

“Scans showed that Gennesh has suffered a rupture to his Achilles tendon … it is difficult for the player to continue the tournament,” the Egyptian FA said on its official Facebook page.

Uganda

Uganda are in a fairly strong place at the moment. They have lost just one of their last twelve fixtures. A large part of that relative success is down to how well they have done defensively. Given that they don’t look to possess a big attacking threat, their defence is vitally important to them. Uganda have taken four clean sheets in their last six games.

Uganda beat the DR Congo 2-0 in their opening match, but couldn’t hold onto a lead against Zimbabwe. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw in that second game. Emmanuel Okwi has two of their three goals at the tournament so far.

This is just their second appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations since finishing as runners up in 1978, so to have a shot at winning the group is a great position. If they hold out for a draw, that gets them a guaranteed top two finished.
