Al Ahly 3-1 FC Masr | Marwan shuts up his critics with 2 Goals!!
A double from out-of-favour striker Marwan Mohsen extended Ahly’s winning start to 10 matches as they beat debutants FC Masr 3-1 in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.
Mohsen, making a rare start, scored twice in quick succession early in the second half after Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi had given Ahly a first-time lead.
A curling free-kick from Ahmed El-Sheikh gave FC Masr a consolation, only the second goal that Ahly concede this term.
Ahly, who look well-equipped to win a fifth consecutive league title, have maximum 30 points from 10 matches, four ahead of second-placed Arab Contractors, who played two matches more.
FC Masr, who are making their maiden top-flight appearance, lie 13th in the table on 11 points.
Ajayi gave Ahly a deserved lead after 23 minutes with a fierce drive from the edge of the area after a defender gave away possession.
The Red Devils spurned several clear-cut chances to double their advantage, including a glaring miss from Mohsen in the 36th minute. He intercepted a poor back pass and broke clear, only to dither on the ball and allow the keeper to thwart him.
Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng, who has recently established himself as a regular starter, also went close with a curling effort late in the first half before Mohsen finally made Ahly’s dominance count on 51 minutes.
He sent a glancing header into the back of the net following a fine cross from Magdi Afsha, who also set up Mohsen for the third just three minutes later.
Dieng released Afsha with a superb threaded pass and the playmaker fed Mohsen as the keeper rushed out, leaving the striker with an easy tap-in.
El-Sheikh curled a free-kick over the wall and past the keeper but it was too little, too late as Ahly ran out comfortable winners.
