Egypt beat North Macedonia 38-19 | World Handball Championship

Egypt have ensured their place in the Main Round of the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship after beating North Macedonia 38-19.

The Pharaohs had opened their campaign with a 35-29 victory over Chile and needed at least one more point in order to secure their place in the main round of the competition.

Their second game was against North Macedonia, who replaced the Czech Republic due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the latter’s’ squad, with the game seeing the return of Egypt legend Ahmed El-Ahmar.

After losing their opening game to Sweden, the Red-Yellow Lions were not a match to hosts Egypt as they suffered a 19-38 defeat.

Egypt had a 5-2 lead just five minutes into the game, which was extended to 10-3 in the 13th minute.

North Macedonia managed to get back into the game, making the score 10-6, however, Karim Hendawy’s heroics managed to make the Egyptians end the first-half with an insane lead of 20-6.

The Egyptians continued their impressive form in the second-half and managed to extend their lead to 24-7, just three minutes after the restart.

In the 40th minute, The Pharaohs had a 20-point lead, 30-10, and with 10 minutes remaining on the final whistle, the Pharaohs maintained their big lead, 35-16.

The visitors were the better side in the last ten minutes of the game and managed to reduce the scoreline, but The Pharaohs still came out victorious 38-19.

The Man of the match award went to Youth Handball World Cup top scorer Hassan Walid, who scored six goals today.

The top scorer in the game was Mohamed Mamdouh who scored eight, and was followed by Hassan Walid, six, and Ahmed Hesham, four.
