Smouha Defeat Al Ahly in the Egyptian League VIDEO

After losing for the first time in the Egyptian Premier League this season in the game against Smouha on Wednesday, Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane stressed that his side should accept the defeat, saying the team was suffering from the absence of key players as well as fatigue.

Ahly was stunned on Wednesday with a loss as they conceded a last-gasp goal in a 2-1 defeat to a lively Smouha after a rare blunder by veteran goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi.

“We made more mistakes during the game. We did not have enough energy to play today’s match,” said Mosimane in the post-game’s press conference.

“We made more effort in the previous games. We did not have enough power. Our last game was played only two and a half days ago. We lost the services of a number of our key players due to injuries,” the Ahly coach added.

Ahly’s in-form playmaker Magdi Afsha fired just wide with the goal at his mercy after racing clear as early the seventh minute but it was Smouha who took the lead four minutes later following a flowing move.

Ahmed Abdel-Kader, who is on loan from Ahly, jinked into the area after exchanging passes with a teammate, skipped past El-Sulaya near the byline and pulled the ball back to the onrushing Abdel-Halim, who made no mistake with a first-timer.

The onslaught Ahly mounted after they fell behind yielded a few clear chances but they still restored parity when a hesitant Smouha defender played El-Shahat onside to race clear and send a delicate ship over the keeper and into the net.

Ahly bombarded Smouha’s goal with numerous shots in the second half and a glancing header from El-Sulaya came back off the woodwork as the Alexandria-based club punished them at the death to snatch a famous win.

Ahly are second in the Egyptian Premier League table with 30 points, three points behind temporary leaders Zamalek, as the Red Devils need to win two games to overtake their rivals.
