Argentina beats Egypt 1-0 in Tokyo | Highlights

Egypt’s U23 football team coach Shawky Gahrib said missed chances were behind Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Argentina in their second Group C game of the Tokyo Olympics.

The Pharaohs’ hopes of qualifying for the quarter-final were dealt a blow after they fell to a 52nd-minute goal from defender Facundo Medina.

“We always face a problem when we lose concentration. Argentina’s goal came from their only dangerous attack,” Gahrib told beIN Sports in a side-pitch interview.

“This is football. You should make the most of your chances.”

Gharib also refused to make excuses when asked whether the absence of Galatasaray marksman Mostafa Mohamed has affected Egypt’s display.

The Turkish club refused to release Mohamed for the Tokyo Games, with the frontman taking part in their 5-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of the European Champions League second qualifying round last week.

Egypt now lie at the bottom with one point, two behind Argentina. Australia, who also have three points, meet Spain in the other Group C game.

Egypt must now beat Australia in their final group match on Wednesday to stand a chance of booking a last-eight berth.
