The Red Devils, who are eying a 43rd title after conceding the trophy to arch-rivals Zamalek last year, currently lie second on the league table with 19 points from seven games, one point behind leaders Pyramids FC, who played one game more.

Beating Maqassa will provide a morale boost for Ahly players ahead of Saturday’s anticipated game against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in the second round of the African Champions League group stage.

On Friday, Ahly were held to a 0-0 draw against Sudan’s Al-Hilal in their opening match; a result that South African coach Pitso Mosimane considered satisfactory.

Mosimane added that his team already turned the page on the Al-Hilal match to concentrate fully ahead of facing Maqassa.

Ahly’s first choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi may be re-joining the line-up on Tuesday following being side-lined for more than a month due to a muscular injury.

The Reds’ will also be missing the services of Tunisian left back Ali Maaloul after he missed Monday’s training session due to muscular fatigue. Meanwhile, it central defenders Mohamed Abdel-Moneim and Ayman Ashraf will be absent due to injuries.

On the other side, struggling Maqassa — who lie in 14th place on the table with eight points from nine games — are eyeing their second win of the season, as they have lost three games and drew in the other five games.
