MO SALAH: GREATEST EVER GOALS

Despite rising to worldwide glory only recently, he has scored some beautiful goals over the course of his career – for Fiorentina, Basel, Roma and even Chelsea. However, it goes without saying that his most memorable strikes have come for Liverpool. Here we glance at the pharaoh’s best-ever goals throughout his glittering 12-year professional career, in no particular order.

Sometimes you just have to acknowledge a moment of greatness by applauding it, and that is exactly what the home crowd at Vicarage Road did. Salah first picked up the ball on the edge of the box before losing it, but what came after was simply brilliant. Firmino managed to pick the loose ball and fed the Egyptian, who then flicked, dragged and pushed the ball in mere split seconds to rid three players before sending a defender to the ground with a fake shot and then slotted it into the back of the net.

The Reds made it 38 games unbeaten at Anfield with this win over Chelsea and there was no sweeter way to cap the victory than a stunning long-range finish by Salah. Van Dijk supplied a superb cross-field pass that the Egyptian vetted with the ultimate first touch, before adding two more and unleashing an unstoppable strike from over 25-yards past Kepa Arrizabalaga. Nothing any keeper could have done about that.

A Champions League semi-final masterclass bar none, Salah was simply on fire as he helped his side progress to the final with two goals and assists each in the first leg. However, it was the first goal of the brace that sent Anfield into tatters. The enigmatic winger sent future teammate Alisson Becker flying in the air for no reason, as he created space from the right flank and clipped an inch-perfect shot into the top left corner.

A goal for the ages and quite possibly the most sublime one in his portfolio, this was also voted as the best solo goal ever in a Premier League poll, ahead of Thierry Henry, Eden Hazard and Son Heung-min. Salah drifted past Cancelo and Foden, sat Bernardo Silva down, before going to turn Aymeric Laporte inside out. The Egyptian made no mistake afterward, knocking home a perfect finish with his weak right foot, as he had done many times before.

Many would argue that Salah’s similar goal against Salzburg deserved to be on the list, but it is this goal against Palermo that makes the list due to the sheer audacity to curl it through a full 180 degrees. Radja Nainggolan superbly initiated the counterattack and fed Salah on the right wing, before the winger’s heavy chest down almost gave it away. But the mercurial forward caught onto the loose ball and swerved it in the picture perfect.

Early in his career, Salah was highly disregarded at Chelsea, thus seeing off a loan at Fiorentina in the latter half of the 2014/15 season. His moment of glory in the Viola shirt came against rivals Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg, where he bagged a brace. Once again, it was the first of his two strikes that stole the limelight, as he dribbled more than half the length of the pitch to notch one in the top right corner and seal the win.

This turned out to be the first time Watford faced the Egyptian’s wrath. Not one, but two goals of the four he registered that night make the cut. His first turned out to be a nightmare for defender Miguel Britos as he trademark twisted him inside out before finishing with his weak foot, before the second came like a freight train. Salah managed to squeeze the ball through six players, including the goalkeeper, with utmost accuracy. All this, despite going to the ground.

Of all the teams he has played for, Liverpool’s fortunes have simply skyrocketed since he joined the club in 2017/18. However, the Reds have fallen victim to Manchester City’s domestic dominance since then, with the Cityzens grabbing four Premier League titles to Liverpool’s one.
