Egypt will play a crucial fourth-round match against Malawi at Bingu National Stadium in their bid to solidify their position at the top of Group D in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Egypt kicked off their 2023 AFCON qualifying campaign with a victory over Guinea in June 2022, followed by a loss to Ethiopia away from home, and then triumphed over Malawi in the third round of qualifiers on Friday.

Group D AFCONQ

Egypt started their 2023 AFCON qualifying campaign with a win against Guinea, but later suffered an away defeat against Ethiopia. However, they bounced back in the third round of qualifiers, defeating Malawi last Friday.

On Monday, the Pharaohs landed in Malawi with a squad of 24 players ahead of the pivotal match.

Coach Rui Vitoria stressed the importance of the away game against Malawi, highlighting that it would not be an easy task for the Pharaohs. He urged the team to give their best performance to secure a victory and strengthen their position in the group.

In a news conference last week, Vitoria stated, “Our game against Malawi is crucial and challenging.”

The Portuguese coach, Vitoria, acknowledged the difficulties associated with playing at 3 pm during the month of Ramadan, in addition to the hot weather and possible rainfall.

He affirmed the team’s readiness to confront any obstacles, stating, “We will equip ourselves to overcome all hurdles.”
