Zamalek’s Egypt Cup dreams were shattered on Wednesday after a surprising 5-3 penalty shootout loss to Talae El-Geish, following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Ahmed “Esho” Abdel-Rahim put Zamalek ahead in the 79th minute, but Mohamed Hamdy Zaki, who came off the bench in the second half, equalized for Talae El-Geish in injury time.
Despite both teams’ efforts, neither could secure a winner in extra time, leading to a penalty shootout where Talae El-Geish emerged victorious.
With this win, Talae El-Geish advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face Ismaily, who secured their spot earlier in the day with a 2-0 victory over Smouha FC.
