Egyptian international Omar Marmoush delivered a standout performance for Eintracht Frankfurt, netting both goals, including a clutch late penalty, to secure a 2-1 victory over his former club Wolfsburg in a thrilling Bundesliga clash.
Marmoush opened the scoring at the half-hour mark, but Wolfsburg fought back as Ridle Baku equalized late in the second half. However, a costly handball by Cedric Zesiger in the Wolfsburg box handed Marmoush the opportunity to seal the win from the penalty spot, and he made no mistake.
With two wins from three matches, Eintracht Frankfurt now sits sixth in the table, while Wolfsburg, with just one win from three, is 10th.
After the match, Marmoush expressed his delight with both the result and his performance. “It’s been a fantastic Saturday,” he told Frankfurt’s official website.
“Taking three points away from home, especially in Wolfsburg, is no easy task. We’re thrilled. I’m happy I could contribute to the team’s success. We played together as a unit and were rewarded for our hard work,” he added.
Marmoush, who joined Frankfurt from Wolfsburg on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, has quickly become a key player for the Eagles. During the 2023/2024 season, he tallied 17 goals and six assists across 41 appearances in all competitions.
