Omar Marmoush is quietly emerging as a standout player in the 2024-25 Bundesliga season, delivering another stellar performance by playing a part in all four goals during Eintracht Frankfurt’s 4-2 win over Holstein Kiel this past weekend.
Meanwhile, Serhou Guirassy’s red-hot goalscoring form has sparked comparisons to Erling Haaland, following in the footsteps of the Dortmund icon. Over in the Premier League, Bryan Mbeumo and Mohamed Salah continued to shine as Africa’s top performers.
Eintracht Frankfurt had Omar Marmoush to thank for their hard-fought victory over newly promoted Holstein Kiel. The Egyptian sensation opened the scoring with a blistering counter-attack, picking up the ball deep in his own half, outrunning the defense, and calmly slotting a low finish to set the tone for a masterclass performance.
Marmoush’s impact was far from over. He delivered a lethal corner early in the second half, setting up Igor Matanovic to retake the lead. Just after the hour mark, he seized on a poor clearance inside the box and fired a deflected shot past Timon Weiner to restore Frankfurt’s advantage.
With 16 minutes left, Marmoush pulled off another piece of magic, picking out a long ball, cutting inside, and delivering a perfect assist to Tuta, who finished from close range. It was a dominant display from the Egyptian, creating more chances, taking more shots, hitting more on target, and completing more dribbles and crosses than anyone else on the field. Marmoush was electric from start to finish.
Marmoush elevated his game to new heights last season, netting 12 league goals in his debut campaign for Eintracht Frankfurt, sparking rumors of Premier League interest from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur. This season, he’s been even more prolific, racking up nine goal involvements in just five games—scoring six and assisting three.
As we head into October, it’s not last year’s Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane, but Marmoush who tops the Bundesliga scoring charts. The only player outperforming him in assists is Kane himself, while Marmoush continues to terrorize defenses with his versatility.
Last season, Marmoush averaged 2.7 shots per game, ranking sixth in the Bundesliga, but this year he’s finding himself in better goalscoring positions and playing with immense confidence. He now leads the league with an average of 5.2 shots per game, showcasing his hunger for goals and his rapid evolution into one of the German top flight’s deadliest forwards.
“He’s the spark in our attack, constantly creating danger with both goals and assists,” Eintracht manager Dino Toppmöller said following the win over Holstein Kiel.
“His speed and ability to make deep runs make him incredibly hard to defend. He can also slip into tight spaces, show excellent control, and deliver quality passes. Right now, he’s in exceptional form and playing with real confidence. That comfort—both with the club and the squad—is what’s driving his success. He’s become an essential player for us.”
Speaking to OnSport in Egypt, former Pharaohs goalkeeper Ahmed Shobair expressed high hopes for Omar Marmoush, whose growing efficiency in front of goal is drawing inevitable comparisons to his fellow countryman, Mohamed Salah.
“What Marmoush has accomplished in the German league since last season deserves even more recognition,” Shobair said. “He proves time and again that he’s a special talent and an exceptional player. It seems likely that a move to one of Europe’s top clubs is just around the corner.”
