FIFA Hits Egyptian Giants Zamalek with Transfer Ban Over Unpaid Dues
In a dramatic turn of events, Egyptian giants Zamalek have been slapped with a transfer ban by FIFA after failing to settle outstanding payments owed to former Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaïb.
The Cairo-based powerhouse received an official notification from the world’s football governing body, confirming the activation of the ban which prevents the club from registering new players.
Board member Amr Adham broke the news via the club’s official media channels, revealing that Zamalek still owes Boutaïb a hefty €983,000 from his time at the club. While Adham noted that the club had previously paid a significant chunk of the €2.4 million total debt, delays in settling the remaining balance proved costly.
“The ban was reactivated due to our inability to meet the remaining installments in recent months,” Adham admitted.
This latest setback could spell trouble for the White Knights as they look to bolster their squad for upcoming domestic and continental challenges.
Zamalek Vows to Settle Boutaïb Dues Before Transfer Window Reopens
Zamalek board member Amr Adham assured fans that the club is committed to resolving the financial dispute with former striker Khalid Boutaïb, pledging that the remaining balance will be paid in the coming period. He added that once the dues are cleared, the FIFA-imposed transfer ban will be lifted, allowing the club to register new players ahead of the next window.
Boutaïb, who joined Zamalek in January 2019, made 24 appearances in the iconic white shirt, netting 5 goals and delivering 2 assists. The Moroccan forward played a key role in helping the club secure the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup title—Zamalek’s first continental trophy in 16 years at the time.
However, his stint at the club ended abruptly in January 2020 after a dispute erupted over the management of a surgical procedure, leading to the termination of his contract.
