Zidan ruled out of US Game

Egypt forward Mohamed Zidan has been ruled out of Sunday’s anticipated clash against the United States due to a hamstring injury.

The Borussia Dortmund man was replaced with Ahmed Eid during the second-half of Egypt’s stunning 1-0 Confederations Cup victory over Italy after picking up the complaint.

“Zidan will not be able to play against the US,” Egypt assistant coach Shawki Gharib told Al-Hayat TV late on Friday.

“The hamstring injury he sustained against Italy is not serious, but it will prevent him from taking part in Sunday’s match.”

FilGoal.com learned that Zidan is unlikely to play further part in the tournament even if Egypt qualify for the semi-final.

Full-backs Ahmed Fathi and Sayed Moawad, who put in superb performances against Italy, were also injured against the world champions but Gharib said they should be ready to face the US.

“Fathi trained with us today, he has no problems,” Hassan Shehata’s assistant said.

“The medical team told us Moawad was 95% certain to recover in time for the match.”
