Ivory Coast set to name new coach

Sven-Goran Eriksson, Mark Hughes and Bernd Schuster will find out by Friday which of them will coach Ivory Coast at the World Cup in South Africa

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) says the new Elephants coach will be named in 24 hours.

Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodzic was sacked last month and FIF secretary general Heguard Ouattara said the possible successors were former England manager Eriksson, former Manchester City boss Hughes and ex-Real Madrid coach Schuster.

“Yes, it’s those three,” Ouattara said adding that he did not know who was the favourite.

“The negotiations are continuing and I think that tomorrow (Friday) we will be in a good position and there will be a choice.”

Halilhodzic was sacked after the West African country failed to reach the African Nations Cup semi-finals.

The Ivorians held talks with several coaches in France last week including Frenchman Phillipe Troussier but no decision was taken.

“The talks in Paris finished last week. There has been no definitive decision at all but we think (it will be) tomorrow,” Ouattara said.

The Elephants, led by Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, are drawn with Brazil, Portugal and North Korea in Group G at the World Cup in South Africa in June and July.
