Egypt qualify for the third round in the 2012 London Games qualifiers despite defeat at Botswana.

Egypt booked a last-16 berth in the 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers despite slumping to a 2-1 defeat at Botswana on Friday.

The Pharaohs went through with a 3-2 aggregate victory, having defeated Botswana 2-0 at home two weeks ago.

Botswana opened the scoring just before the break and levelled the aggregate score early in the second half after capitalizing on some defensive mistakes from Egypt.

However, the visitors ensured they would progress when striker Marouane Mohsen, who also scored in the first leg, headed home following a long throw-in.

“Botswana’s team boasted several players from the senior team, who were the first side to reach next year’s African Cup of Nations finals. They handed us a stern test,” Egypt coach Hany Ramzy told Egyptian radio after the game.

“We should learn from our mistakes because we wasted too many chances in the first leg which would have made our task much easier.”

Egypt are bidding to qualify for the Olympic Games for the first time since the 1992 tournament in Barcelona.
