The Cairo giants will host Algerian side ES Setif tonight in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals at El-Salam Stadium in Cairo, while the second leg will take place on 23 October in Algeria.
Ahly have been hit with a two-match fan ban (currently on hold) and fined ($20,000) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their fans unsporting and offensive behavior during Ahly’s 4-0 win over Horoya of Guinea in a Champions League game in Cairo.
The eight-time African champions are bidding for their first Champions League title since 2013.
Algerian side ES Setif booked a last-four berth after stunning defending champions Wydad de Casablanca 1-0 on aggregate in the quarter finals.
They will be hoping to spring another surprise against record eight-time winners Ahly.
“Our target is to achieve a positive result in Cairo,” Bouguelmouna told Algerian newspaper Al-Nahar.
The 29-year-old said Setif are approaching the anticipated game in a positive mood despite a 1-0 loss to JSK in a league game on Thursday which saw them drop to sixth in the table with 11 points, seven behind leaders JSK.
“The team will not be affected by the Algerian league defeat as we are all fully focused on the Champions League clash against Ahly,” the Algerian forward concluded.
