25,000 fans to attend the crucial match against Senegal

Sports Minister Khaled Abdel-Aziz reached an agreement with the interior minister to allow 25,000 fans to attend the crucial match against Senegal.

“A special area will be reserved for those with special needs and 3,000 invitations will be sent to public figures,” Abdel-Aziz announced on Monday.

A crowd ban has been imposed at football matches in Egypt because of political turmoil and repeated clashes between fans and security forces.

Since the ban was imposed in 2012, the interior minister has occasionally allowed a limited number of fans to attend continental matches.

Egypt take on Senegal in a do-or-die clash on Saturday before facing Tunisia away five days later as they seek qualification to the African Nations Cup for the first time since lifting the last of their record seven titles in 2010.

Third in Group G with six points, Egypt must beat second-placed Senegal (seven points) to keep their hopes alive.
