Egypt will face Tunisia September 10, 2014 | CAN qualifiers

Egypt have set 10 September as the date for their clash against Tunisia in the second round of the 2015 African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers.

“We have informed the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) that we want to play the match on 10 September at Cairo stadium,” Egypt coach Shawky Gharib revealed in a TV statement late on Tuesday.

“I hope that we get the security permission as soon as possible as we want to get more concentration.

“Also I hope that fans will be allowed to attend as the game is very important for us,” he added.

Fans were not allowed to attend matches during the past season due to security concerns.

The Pharaohs, currently under the helm of coach Gharib, have done well at the CAN, winning three times in a row in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Now they are bidding for a return after missing the last two tournaments in 2012 and 2013. They will kick off their bid with an away clash against Senegal on 6 September, four days before they take on Tunisia.

They are set to play two friendlies, with Ethiopia likely the first on 30 August in the Upper Egyptian city of Aswan.

“We will start a training camp in Aswan from 25 August until the Ethiopia friendly match,” Gharib explained.

In the 2015 CAN qualifiers, Egypt play in Group G along with Tunisia, Senegal and Botswana.
