Title holders Ahly return to Egyptian Premier League action against Ittihad of Alexandria on Sunday but will have to do without several regulars as African Champions League exertions take their toll on the team.

The Red Devils secured a convincing 2-0 home win over Algeria’s ES Setif in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final last Tuesday but it came at a price, with influential left-back Ali Maaloul joining their growing list of injured players.

The Tunisian international is facing up to two months on the sidelines after hurting his hamstring in the victory over Setif. He will miss the Ittihad match along with regular central defender Saad Samir, defensive midfielder Hossam Ashour and forward Salah Mohsen.

First-choice striker Walid Azaro was also rested, with Egyptian international Marwan Mohsen expected to deputise for him.

Ittihad lie 10th in the 18-team table with 11 points from nine games.
