Zamalek’s goal keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed stripped of team captaincy three days before the Egyptian League resumes, due to differences with club management

Zamalek’s football director Ibrahim Hassan said on Monday that Abded-Wahed El-Sayed is not the right man to lead the players any more, after he filed a complaint against the club for not paying his salary.

“We decided to take the armband from him after he led the players to complain about the club,’’ Hassan was quoted as saying in a TV program on Monday.

The international keeper and 11 of Zamalek’s players lodged a complaint with the Egyptian Football Association against Zamalek on Saturday, claiming that they haven’t received their monthly salaries.

“It is unacceptable that the team captain should lead a revolt against his club. He should have assumed his responsibilities as a leader,” Zamalek’s football director added.

However, the 33 year-old goalkeeper insisted that he will leave the club if he is dismissed as team captain.

“I’ll quit Zamalek immediately if I am officially notified about this decision,” Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed  told a TV sports programme on Monday.

El-Sayed, who has been defending Zamalek’s goal since 1998, is still under contract, which will not expire until summer 2012.

The recent crises comes as a major blow for the League leaders ahead of Thursday’s clash against Harras Al-Hodoud in the sixteenth day of the Egyptian Premier League.

Zamalek are at the top of the League table with 32 points, three points ahead of Ismaily.
