Senegal too good for Tanzania | SEN 2-0 TAN | Match Review

Senegal eased to a 2-0 win over Tanzania in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations opener at 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Sunday.

The Teranga Lions were too strong for the Taifa Stars who were kept in the game by some lackluster finishing by the West African’s.

Senegal should’ve been two goals up inside the opening 10 minutes, but M’Baye Niang failed to convert two gilt-edged chances for the tournament favourites.

Keita Baldé finally found a way past Tanzania’s Aishi Manula in the 28th minute of the clash for Senegal’s opening goal of the tournament. Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye teed up the forward who drove a low shot into the back of the net.

Senegal continued to threaten – even without the suspended Sadio Mane – but were unable to add to their advantage before the break.

Krépin Diatta finally doubled Senegal’s lead in the 64th minute with a crisp half-volley that left Manula with no chance.

Senegal would see out the rest of the game with relative ease as the two teams now prepare for their second group fixture which will take place in four days time, against Algeria and Kenya respectively.
