Ahly release Moawad & Shoukry!

Sayed Moawad and Ahmed Shoukry join five other players to be released by Al Ahly this week.

Left winger Sayed Moawad and midfielder Ahmed Shoukry were released by Ahly on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Moawad joined Ahly from Ismaily in 2008 and quickly established himself as one of the team’s key elements.

Shoukry, 25, joined the Red Devils in 2005 but failed to play on regular basis.

“I would like to thank Ahly and its great fans. I hope God will help me in determining my new destination,” Moawad said via his Twitter account early on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Ahly also released five other players, Ahmed “Manga” Nabil, Ahmed Shedid, Ahmed Raouf, Shehabeldin Ahmed and El-Sayed Hamdy, from the first team squad.

New Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido released the players to make way for his new signings.

The former Villarreal, Real Betis and Club Brugge of Belgium coach, who replaced interim coach Fathi Mabrouk, is expected to introduce bold changes to Ahly’s squad next season, using a crop of young and talented players.

The registration of new signings with the Egyptian Football Association started on Sunday. The summer transfer window will close on 20 August.
