Raja kicks Al Ismaily SC out of the Arab Champions Cup
Egyptian side Ismaily conceded a 3-0 defeat against Moroccan Champions Raja on Monday at Marrakech to exit the Arab Champions Cup semi-final following their 1-0 first leg home win.
After a dull first half, Raja scored in quick succession as Mohsine Moutouali opened the scoring in the 60th minute from a penalty kick, and Ben Malango scored in the 67th minute.
And while the visitors were desperately pressing forward to grab a goal that would lift them to the final, Mahmoud Benhalib put the tie beyond doubt with a third goal in the 83rd minute.
The Moroccan side has set up a showdown against Ittihad Jeddah in the final of the highly rewarding competition, where the winner will earn $6 million, which makes the Mohamed VI Arab Champions Cup among the top rewarding competitions in the world.
Ismaily have been in a struggle since last season as the former three-time Egyptian champions ended 12th and are currently 10th in the new campaign, having only won once in their previous six league games.
Brazilian coach Heron Ferreira has been sacked following that poor start and Abou-Taleb Esawi has been in charge as a caretaker coach.
