Algeria forward Rafik Saifi says that he hopes Egypt will fail to win their next two qualifiers so his team can secure World Cup qualification before Group C’s final round.
The Desert Foxes are currently top of the group with seven points, followed by Egypt and Zambia, who are both on four.
While Egypt will travel to Rwanda and Zambia, Algeria will host the same two teams before clashing with the Pharaohs in Cairo in November.
“If Egypt lose or draw against either Rwanda or Zambia, then we can guarantee qualification before the final showdown in Cairo,” Saifi told Le Buteaur.
The Lorient man added that so far his team managed to exceed the expectations of many, who earlier believed that Egypt and Zambia have a better chance of qualifying.
“Everyone put us down as underdogs before the qualifications started. But we preferred to work in silence and respond on the pitch and that’s what we did.”
“Now our destiny is in our own hands,” Saifi concluded.
