Ahly laid Hodoud’s ghost to rest after defeating them 1-0 at Cairo Stadium on Sunday, thanks to a second-half goal from playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika.
The Red Devils snapped a four-match win less streak against Hodoud, who defeated them in last season’s Super Cup and the Egyptian Cup final as well as holding them to two Premier League draws.
“We were better than Hodoud today, and we were also better in last season’s games,” Al-Badri said after the game.
“But the difference is that luck was on our side today, that’s why we emerged winners.”
Al-Badri, who replaced Portuguese coach Manuel Jose last summer, enjoyed his second triumph at the helm of Ahly after leading them to the Premier League title last season.
