Egypt opened their U-23 African Championship campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Gabon on Sunday.
Egypts and Ghazl El-Mahalla forward Ahmed Magdy scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute of the game to put Hani Ramzys men temporarily on top of group B as Ivory Coast and South Africa will play later on today.
Hossam Hassan sent Omar Gaber clear on the right flank to play a low cross for Magdy who shot from inside the box.
Wasteful-Egypt dominated the game but couldnt capitalize on the host of chances created over the 90 minutes.
Minnows Gabon only reacted in the dying minutes of the game and managed to create some threat on Ahmed El-Shennawys nets.
Egypt will face Ivory Coast in the second round next Wednesday.
