Chelsea Football Club today completed the signing of Mohamed Salah from FC Basel.
The Egyptian international signed a five-and-a-half-year contract and will wear the number 15 shirt.
Upon signing, Salah said: ‘I’m very happy to sign for Chelsea, such a big club in the world. I hope I can make the Chelsea supporters happy and have a good career at the club for many years to come.’
Salah had been a target of Premier League side Liverpool since the opening of the winter transfer window and the player was close to joining the Reds, but Chelsea have instead won the race for the 21-year-old.
He will now be joining Egypt teammate Ahmed Elmohamady in the English Premier League on the former’s second overseas spell, following a shining one-and-half year tenure with Swiss league champions Basel.
Chelsea are currently third in the league on 49 points, two adrift of leaders Arsenal.
