Rio Ave striker Koka did not celebrate his goal in the Portuguese football league out of respect for 19 Zamalek fans killed on Sunday.
According to the health ministry, 19 people died after violent clashes occurred between the police and Zamalek supporters before a league match with ENPPI.
It only took Koka, who is one of five Egyptians playing in the Portuguese league, ten minutes to score the opener for Rio Ave from a penalty in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Boavista, but the player refused the celebrate his tenth league goal of the season.
“I couldn’t celebrate the goal as my brothers died for no reason,” the 21-year-old player posted on his Twitter account after the match.
