An early goal by Zamalek’s top scorer Bassem Morsi gave the Cairo giants their sixth consecutive win, extending Zamalek’s unbeaten streak to 17 matches, their best run in over a decade.
The White Knights are five points clear of second-placed ENPPI, who played two extra games. They have 63 points from 26 games, 11 clear of arch rivals and holders Ahly who crushed El-Geish 4-0 on Sunday.
Masry, who fialed to secure a second consecutive win under new coach Mokhtar Mokhtar, remained 13th in the league table with 35 points.
The win over Masry in Ismailia also marked the first time Zamalek kept a clean sheet for six straight matches in 32 years.
Chasing their first league title since 2004, Zamalek mounted early pressure that resulted in an early goal.
