Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry: “I’m not leaving”
Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry has rubbished reports linking him with resignation, confirming he is engaged with the team to continue competing for titles.
“I don’t think about leaving my club at all. I will remain at the club’s disposal to accomplish the targets planned,” the 56-year-old tactician said according to his club’s official website on Monday.
“I appreciate the trust of the board and the fans and I know how big my responsibilities are. I am aware that the false reports said about me are only aimed to shake the team’s stabilities,” added the former Ahly defender.
El-Badry insisted that his team will reach the quarterfinals of the African Champions League, despite opening their group-stage campaign with a goalless draw on Saturday.
The Cairo giants failed to score against Zambian side Zanaco at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium, putting a damper on hopes of a smooth passage through the CAF group stage.
Hossam El-Badry has been leading Ahly since last August, his third stint in charge of the team, despite an acrimonious departure in 2013.
The title-holders Ahly are closing on winning the current Egyptian Premier League for the 39th time.
