Smouha beat Recreativo 2-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup | VIDEO
Egypt’s Smouha produced a superb attacking display to claim a 2-0 home win over Angola’s Recreativo do Libolo on Wednesday and make up for an opening group-stage loss in the African Confederation Cup.
Diminutive striker Ahmed Raouf put Smouha ahead after 12 minutes at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium when he met a left-wing cross with a powerful header that left the keeper with no chance.
Smouha could have doubled their lead on several occasions in the second half half, with energetic winger Islam Mohareb spurning a couple of clear-cut chances including a penalty which he sent wide of the post on 70 minutes.
However, he made amends three minutes into stoppage time to wrap up the win in superb fashion.
His curling shot from the edge of the area looped over Recreativo keeper Ricardo Batista to give Smouha a valuable win after they lost 1-0 at Zambia’s Zesco United in their opening Group C game earlier this month.
Smouha top the group with three points, on level with Zesco who can go top if they beat Sudan’s Hilal Obayed later in the day.
