Amr Gamal magical assists was enough to win the TKO Title for Bidvest Wits
Bidvest Wits struck late in the second half to beat Bloemfontein Celtic and clinch the 2017 Telkom Knockout crown on Saturday evening.
The early exchanges were quiet with neither team managing to carve out any opportunities in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
Gabadinho Mhango, who was returning from suspension, was causing Celtic all kinds of trouble down the wing.
Mhango came closest to scoring in the 25th minute after dribbling past players and firing a deflected shot against the upright with Amr Gamal missing out on the rebound.
The remaining minutes of the first half were quiet with neither team managing to create any clear cut chances.
Tshepo Rikhotso found his name in the referees book after a foul on Mhango at the start of the second half.
Celtic applied early pressure and had consecutive corners but failed to convert opportunities.
Darren Keet made a crucial save in the 61st minute to keep his side in the game as Celtic looked to up the tempo of the second half,
Gamal made an effort from the edge of the box only to see his effort saved by Celtic shot-stopper Patrick Tignyemb in the 76th minute.
Wits’ pressure finally paid of in the 90th minute when Gamal set up Pule who neatly flicked home to give his side a 1-0 lead with seconds remaining.
That proved to be the final bit of action as Wits ran out 1-0 winners to claim a morale boosting victory and much needed silverware.
