Zamalek’s new coach Ehab Galal will start his mission with the White Knights with a tough test against archrivals Ahly in the Cairo derby at Cairo Stadium on Monday.
The former ENPPI coach was named Zamalek’s new boss on Saturday in succession of sacked coach Nebojsa Jovovic, who left his post due to the team’s poor results during his five-month spell at the club.
Zamalek, who slumped to their fourth league defeat this season on Wednesday when they lost 2-1 to Talae El-Geish, are fourth on the league table with 28 points, nine points behind leaders Ismaily.
Despite his late appointment, Galal said he would take charge of the team during the derby, affirming that he will do his best to help the team earn a positive result against the title holders.
A positive result against Ahly would help Galal work without pressure as well as boost the morale of the team’s players after a catastrophic half-season that saw the White Knights lose 24 points in 16 games.
Al Ahly closed to within one point of Egyptian Premier League leaders Ismaily after crushing third-bottom Nasr 4-0 at Cairo Stadium on Tuesday.
Ahly, whose two consecutive victories followed a disappointing run of only one win in four matches, are second in the table with 36 points, just one short of leaders Ismaily who played a match more.
Ahly’s veteran striker Emad Meteb has officially joined Saudi side Al-Taawoun in a six month loan deal.
Moamen Zakaraia, Moved to the Saudi Arabian league from Al-Ahly on a six month loan. Zakaria became the third player from Al- Ahli to move to a Saudi club in a week after Emad Motaeb and Ahmed El-Sheikh.
