Egyptian club Ahly held a press conference on Sunday to announce the retirement ceremony for skipper Hossam Ghaly.
The event will take place in the UAE city of Al-Ain on 11 May in which the Egyptian club will play Netherland’s Ajax Amsterdam.
“My fame has been built mainly by Ahly. The decision wasn’t easy at all, but I think I made it in the right time,” he said.
The nomadic forward shed tears while expressing his gratitude to the club members and fans during the presser.
The 36-year-old, who won three Egyptian league titles, two Egyptian Cup titles and two African Champions League titles with Ahly, has also recalled memories of his successful journey in Europe serving for Feyenoord, Tottenham Hotspur, Derby County and Lierse, before settling down at his boyhood club in 2014.
“I have known Ghaly since he was a young boy. He is a model hard worker who has tremendous individual skills and leading team spirit,” Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry said, joining in the chorus of praise during the presser.
Ahly are ending a record-breaking Egyptian Premier League season victory while competing in Egypt Cup and African Champions League.
