DONE DEAL: Mahmoud Wahid joins Al Ahly on a four-and-a-half year deal
Egypt’s Ahly made their second winter acquisition after completing the signing of Maqassa’s left-back Mahmoud Wahid on Friday as they aim to bolster an underachieving squad.
Ahly said on their official website that Wahid had penned a four-and-a-half year deal, which will take effect when the transfer window opens in January.
The 24-year-old has made 16 appearances with Maqassa, who lie fourth in the Egyptian Premier League, so far this season, scoring once and providing five assists.
He is mainly expected to act as an understudy to regular left-back Ali Maaloul, a Tunisian international who is one of Ahly’s key players.
The Red Devils have also recently landed Wadi Degla’s Egyptian international midfielder Mohamed Mahmoud as they seek to rescue their season following a poor run of form.
Lack of depth in their squad was mainly cited as a reason for their defeat in the African Champions League final as well as their surprise elimination from the Arab Zayed Cup at the last 16 stage.
They have had to deal with a number of injuries that hit several of their key players, including Maaloul and Nigerian winger Junior Ajayi.
Ahly, who are also desperate to keep in touch with league leaders and arch rivals Zamalek, are expected to make more signings in January.
