Zamalek will be hoping a lengthy Egyptian Premier League was useful after some below-par displays as they resume their league campaign against the bottom side Enppi on Monday.
Although they won three times and drew once in their opening four matches, their performances have been uninspiring and sluggish, with coach Micho coming in for fierce criticism.
The Serbian has been blamed for failing to settle on a regular starting line-up, making too many changes every match.
However, the one-month league hiatus due to Egypt’s participation in the U23 African Cup of Nations, which the national team had won on home soil, has given him some time to try new tactics.
“This period was very important for us. The training camp we held helped us bring the players together and raise the fitness levels,” Micho said.
“We played some strong friendly matches which benefited us a lot during the league break.”
Zamalek should find no difficulty in beating an Enppi side that only collected one point from five matches, a disastrous run which prompted coach Ali Maher to step down. The club brought ex-Zamalek boss Helmi Toulan as a replacement.
However, they will have to do without a number of key players due injury including Tunisian Ferjani Sassi, their source of creativity in midfield, and his partner Tarek Hamed as well as influential left-back Abdallah Gomaa.
