FC Nouadhibou 2-3 Al Masry SC | CAF Confederation Cup | Highlights
Right-back Karim El-Eraki scored in stoppage time to give Egyptian side Masry a precious 3-2 away win over Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou in their opening group stage game of the African Confederation Cup on Sunday.
An opportunist strike from El-Eraki, who was one of Egypt’s stars during their U23 African Nations Cup triumphant campaign last month, handed Masry a winning start in Group A.
In an end-to-end affair, Masry took a 20th-minute lead when Nigerian striker Austin Amutu dived to head home an inviting cross from the right.
Nouadhibou striker Boubacar Bagili leveled the score less than one minute into the second half, ghosting behind the static defence to latch onto a through pass and fire home with aplomb.
Yassin El Welly put the hosts ahead in the 55th minute when he made the most of a defensive mix-up but a stunning strike from Amutu restored parity eight minutes later.
Picking up the ball in his own half, the burly frontman shook off one challenger, outmuscled another to leave him trailing in his wake and broke clear before curling a delightful shot into the far corner.
Masry keeper Ahmed Masoud tipped over a goal-bound shot before El-Eraki broke Nouadhibou’s hearts in the first minute of stoppage time.
An angled shot from Islam Eissa after a counter attack struck a defender, rebounded off the back of another and fell kindly for El-Eraki to volley home in off the bar.
