Will the Egyptian League be canceled?
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Wednesday that it is extending the suspension of all football activities in Egypt for 15 more days, till the end of April, due to the coronavirus crisis.
“In accordance with the decisions by the Egyptian prime minister extending a curfew in the country for another two weeks, the EFA has decided to extend the suspension of football activities for another 15 days, from 15 April to 30 April,” reads a statement by the EFA.
“The decision applies to all grades of local competitions and all ages,” the statement added.
The EFA initially suspended all its activities for 15 days on 15 March over the coronavirus outbreak, before extending the suspension for another two weeks starting from 30 March.
On Wednesday, Egypt’s government extended the current partial curfew from 8 pm to 6 am for the other two weeks as part of stricter measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
The EFA’s decision includes shutting down all youth centers and training grounds.
Egyptian clubs have already halted their training and asked their players to train at home until further notice.
According to the latest health ministry statement issued on Tuesday, Egypt has registered more new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 1,560 cases and the death toll of 103 nationwide.
